Quarantine Check-In: A Community of Artists Friday May 1, 2020
Hello. My name is Nat and I am a musician currently living in Davis, California. It’s April 26th, 2020 and it has been just about 1 month since the nation wide “Shelter-In-Place” has taken effect.
BEFORE QUARANTINE IFE:
In March, if you asked me what my plans I had coming up in 2020, I would have mentioned
- New RJE Foundation events such as Wellness Pop-Up featuring the photographers, multi-media artists, and musicians from Brooklyn
- Playing shows at new venues, festivals, and cities like Mexico City
- Writing new music with my bandmates and many visits to Brooklyn
- Doing more physical activities outdoor in California’s nature (especially because I have been in New York the last 2 years)
If my original plans were in place, I would have been rehearsing with my bandmates as we prepped to go to San Luis Obispo to play at Shabang! Festival and at Teregram in LA. L
NOW:
Unfortunately, all my plans have changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When I returned to Davis after been away for almost 2 months, I realized the only social contact in the near future would have to be via electronic sources. I was really looking forward to seeing and hugging friends, that happened to be in the music community too, when I was home! However, in order to move past this “Corona Quarantine”, minimizing the time spent in public while adhering to the social distancing guidelines is CRUCIAL!
Texts, emails, DM’s etc. were sent and spread the last 2 weeks to friends, friends of friends, etc. asking if they were interested in making a short video of what’s going on in their lives.
I realized there are soo many people I will not physically see from the fact that I am not attending shows, touring, attending art openings, etc. Even subtle hellos to acquaintances would be missing! Russell’s goal was to create a closer community. Therefore, I thought … it’d be kinda cool if we could have a bunch of artists, musicians, writers, photographers, etc. in the creative community give a little update on what’s going on for them!
Enjoy this little “Quarantine Check-In”.
